Stearns Wharf (217 Stearns Wharf, Santa Barbara, CA 93101) is the oldest working wooden pier on the West Coast — a half-mile structure that juts into the harbor from the foot of State Street, lined with seafood restaurants, a wine tasting room, a bait shop, and the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History Sea Center. It's a required stop on any Santa Barbara group itinerary, and the harbor area around it (Cabrillo Pavilion, Chase Palm Park, the adjacent beach) handles the majority of the city's large-group outdoor events. Vehicle access onto the wharf itself is restricted to service vehicles and accessible parking; your bus drops on the East Cabrillo Boulevard frontage next to the wharf entrance, which puts your group steps from the pier.
On summer weekends and Fourth of July, Cabrillo Boulevard becomes a slow crawl in both directions — give yourself a 20-minute buffer in the itinerary. Parking on the lot next to the wharf runs $3.25/hour with a 3-hour maximum on weekends.
